Our History. Our People
The QEII Social Club (previously ‘Charlies Social Club’ or ‘Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital Social Club Inc.’) was established in 1975 and set up by staff and hospital management with the purpose:
To engender good social contact between all disciplines and to develop amenities for the welfare of hospital staff
The social club started with the theme of “togetherness”, and that has changed little since 1975. Our purpose is still providing amenities for all hospital personnel and our theme is bringing people together, building community and connections and developing a positive culture of inclusion.
The Social Club started as an organisation in 1975, solely for Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital staff. Membership was expanded in the early 2000s to include volunteers, students and contractors, from within SCGH and other QEII campus organisations. These include Department of Health, research and private organisations such as the North Metropolitan Health Service, PathWest, Lions Eye Institute, University of Western Australia, the Harry Perkins Institute, QEII Trust and Perth Children’s Hospital.
The Social Club gym began operating in 1988. It is staff run and membership fees have paid for gradual improvements.
Office Bearers
Committee members and particularly our office bearers have been the backbone of our organisation since 1975. A big thank you to all our office bearers who have included:
